Getting Started

To request academic accommodations, please follow our outlined process. If you are interested in requesting housing accommodations, please visit our housing accommodations page to review the process.

Guide to Completing Accommodations Request Process:

  1. Complete the accommodation request form on the MyARC portal.
  2. Upload documentation that meets university guidelines to your accommodation request form on the MyARC portal.
  3. Once your accommodation request form and documentation have been reviewed, an ARC advisor will contact you to set up a virtual meeting to discuss potential accommodations and next steps.

Please note that it can take up to 4 weeks for ARC staff to review submitted documentation. If you are unsure whether your documentation meets University guidelines, please email the ARC, and a disability advisor will be in touch to schedule a consultation.

Accommodations are not retroactive. Although a student has provided documentation to the Academic Resource Center, the accommodations become active after the student has provided the accommodation letter to their professors. Students are responsible for discussing implementation of accommodations with their professors to ensure timely implementation of the accommodations.

If you are a current student who is already approved for academic accommodations and you wish to update your accommodations, please complete the following steps:

  1. Contact your ARC advisor to set up a virtual appointment to discuss modifying your current accommodations.
    1. Not sure who your ARC advisor is? Log in to MyARC; your advisor is listed underneath the menus on the left side of the page.
    2. You may be asked to provide supporting documentation that meets University guidelines before your meeting. It can take up to 4 weeks for ARC staff to review submitted documentation.
      • You can submit supplemental documentation in MyARC. Click on “Documentation Submission Form” under the Home menu on the left side of the page.
      • If you are unable to submit your documentation via MyARC, please note that email is the preferred and most efficient way of submitting documentation as there may be delay via fax or USPS.
  2. Meet with your ARC advisor to discuss updates to your accommodations. (Accommodation meetings last approximately 30 minutes.)
    1. During your meeting, we’ll discuss how things are working for you.
    2. Your new accommodations, if applicable, will be added in MyARC by your advisor, after which you will be able to send your updated accommodation letters to your professors.

First time requesting accommodations at Georgetown?

We recommend that incoming students who are starting classes in the fall semester submit their requests in June or July, as the office begins reviewing these requests after Memorial Day. Students who are starting classes in the spring can place requests in November or December, but review of requests may be delayed by final exams or the University closure for winter break. You can request accommodations beyond August, but placing a request over the summer is recommended so accommodations are in place when the semester begins. You must be assigned official Georgetown credentials–a netID (your initials and a number) and Georgetown email address–before you can place your requests through MyARC.

If you are in need of assistance for a temporary medical condition (i.e. lasting less than one semester), you should consult with your academic dean/advisor to discuss your particular situation so that the advisor can help facilitate assistance by being in contact with your professors.  Examples of Temporary conditions may include, but are not limited to, broken limbs, hand injuries, (i.e. broken bones, concussions), or illness (i.e. COVID, influenza, Mononucleosis, etc.)

  • You might be requested to submit documentation to your dean/advisor from a treating clinician that includes a short explanation of the diagnosis, resulting physical or cognitive limitations, prognosis for recovery and estimated duration of the illness or injury.
  • If your illnesses or injuries are expected to last longer than one semester, you should submit an accommodation request with the Academic Resource Center for disability accommodations.

Please visit our webpage for more information regarding Temporary Medical Conditions

Note: Georgetown University does not provide personalized transportation service to students who have sustained leg injuries or are immobile. If you are in need of an accessible van during Safe Ride hours, please contact GUPD.
